Great Skincare Doesn’t Start on the Grocery Store Shelf – Chemical Dangers

No matter what miracle cream, injection, or serum you use on your face unless your nutrition is right and your body is able to shed old cells and regenerate new ones on a regular basis the wonders of antiaging may allude you.

The grocery and drug store shelves are stacked tight with beautifully designed boxes attempting to lure you in promising you the world, most delivering very little in the way of results. These products mostly have one thing in common. They are chemical based and mixed with preservatives in order to maintain a long shelf life.

Just because they can offer a long shelf life doesn’t mean anything for your longevity, nor your beauty and health enhancement. In fact, many of these FDA approved chemicals and biological agents are showing to have side effects that can actually cause your health to deteriorate over time. Some are downright dangerous.

Let’s take a look at what has been nicknamed the “Toxic Watch List” so you know what to watch out for.

Formaldehyde – while yes, the idea is to preserve youth, you are not a corpse, and this is a toxic substance that is carcinogenic. It is also disguised under the names of Bronopol, DMDM hydantoin, diazolidinyl urea, imidazolidineyl urea, and quaternium-15.

Fragrance (synthetic) = this is an umbrella term for unknown substances. Fragrance is nonregulated by any governing body and may be hazardous.

Phtalates – used to make fragrance stick to the skin. It is an endocrine disruptor.

Parabens – preservatives found in many cosmetics. Butyl, propyl and ethyl parabens have been linked to hormone disruption.

Mineral Oil – It is a byproduct of petroleum and can have cancer causing impurities.

PEGs – Chemical thickening agent. Potential skin irritant.

Siloxanes – found in skincare products and cosmetics, they are also an endocrine disruptor.

Ethanolamines – emulsifier for skincare and mascara they can be listed as monoethanolamine (MEA), diethanolamine (DEA), or triethanolamine (TEA). Endocrine disruptive properties.

Oxybenzone – found in sunscreen, lip gloss, cleanses and even baby products. This is a well established endocrine disruptor.

Toluene – also called BHT or Butylated Hudroxytoluene it is linked to brain toxicity and is especially dangerous during pregnancy.

Talc – while rated as generally safe by the FDA it is a known carcinogen and has the potential to be contaminated with asbestos.

PFAs and PFCs – there are thousands of chemicals in these two classifications. They are linked to serious health issues such as thyroid disease and cancer.

Teflon – Most of us think this one can be avoided by not using Teflon coated pans. The truth is that it is used to improve the texture of cosmetics. It is linked to reproductive issues and endocrine system break down.

Because of the dangers of all of these common ingredients we saw no benefit to using any of them when creating our line for RenovoVita. Instead, we chose only natural ingredients that are aimed to heal and benefit the body.
