The Difference Food Grade Versus Pharmaceutical Grade Makes in Supplementation

Food Grade Versus Pharmaceutical Grade in Supplementation

When considering taking supplements to help your body overcome illness or just to be proactive and help ensure wellness for your future it is important to consider the source and quality.

The fact is that there are thousands of vitamin companies on the market. Not all of them use top quality sourcing and that can have a major effect on how well your body is able to use what you are trying to add in.

One of the most important quality choices you can make when looking up and researching supplements is to look for pharmaceutical grade ingredients rather than food grade (or even lower, feed grade. Yes, some lesser manufacturers do try and get away with using the lowest cheapest grade possible. While feed grade is still technically the same vitamin or mineral it is not of a purity level that is going to be widely beneficial or readily absorbable. This level is used as a feed additive for livestock. While all three level grades are ok to ingest and do have the same listed health benefits, pharmaceutical grade is higher in purity and far better for you.

The concentration level is higher in the pharmaceutical grade and therefore only needs to be consumed for a shorter amount of time in smaller quantities for you to feel a difference.

You may have heard the term bioavailability. Bioavailability is the level and rate at which a drug or vitamin can be absorbed into the body for use. For example, IV therapy is 100% bioavailability. It is introduced directly into the circulatory system and immediately absorbed. Oral administration must pass through the digestive tract before being metabolized by the liver. It takes longer and is less potent making the grade and quality of utmost importance.

When deciding to invest in your health by way of supplementation please do consider the bioavailability by way of choosing only pharmaceutical grade products. While on the surface you may feel like you are paying a little more that really isn’t the case when you consider the amount that actually is able to be used by your body for support.
